Penya Talai is the southern slope of the valley known as La Vall de Pop.
This route is 12.8 km long. It starts from the square known as Plaça de l'Ajuntament where you can see the medieval tower and the church called Nativitat de Nostra Senyora. Walk along the street known as Carrer del Ravalet and, if you stop at its viewpoint, you can admire great views of Coll de Rates, Parcent and Carrascar. From here, cross the River Gorgos (Xaló) and then you can see the hermitage of Sant Joan de Mosquera, built on top of an old Moorish village.
Continue advancing until you reach the Coll de Rates viewpoint, from where you can enjoy beautiful views of the whole region. Keep walking and skirt around the rock known as Penya Talai until you reach Es Massil. From its viewpoint you can observe the typical crops of the Marina Alta region, such as almond trees, vines and cherry trees.
To finish off this route, descend through the ravine called Barranc del Negre until you reach Alcalalí and then return to the starting point, Plaça de l'Ajuntament.
