Hermitages and churches

La Vall de Laguar

Església de Sant Pasqual Bailón. Fleix.

The current temple began to be constructed in 1730. Like many of the simple churches in these valleys, it consists of a rectangular nave with lateral chapels. It has always been an annex of Campell. The bell tower is located on one side of the main façade of the church, and it has a square plan and three bodies. The first body combines stone blocks with masonry and a plastered wall, and on one side there is the clock face display. There are various mouldings between the first and second bodies. The second body features four windows, each with a semi-circular arch, which are framed by mouldings at the height of the impost and the arches. The third body is delimited by a balustrade, and in the centre there is a circular structure with two levels and an arch on each side. The first level has diagonal arches, and the second level is covered with tiles and has a central cross.

In 1994, the three bells were installed with iron trusses from the Manclús foundry and were equipped with a chain on the clapper to ring them from the base of the tower. The largest bell had an hour hammer for the hourly strikes.

Both the bell tower as well as the bells are well preserved. The latter are installed in the windows of the bell chamber with traditional Valencian wooden trusses. They have a single-phase impulse motor. The clappers are tied and reinforced with safety cables. There is a set of three bells typical of the Manuel Roses Vidal foundry, acquired in 1940.

During the 1960s or 1970s, the foundry of Salvador Manclús replaced the trusses with iron ones with wheels so as to make them function electrically, but they did not install any mechanisms. The three bells were restored in 2001, along with the rest of the bells in the municipality. They were lowered from the tower and taken to the workshop, to be cleaned inside and on the outside, and the iron trusses were replaced with new wooden ones in the traditional Valencian profile. Finally, they were installed in the bell chamber and mechanised with a single-phase impulse motor.
