Senija

Cova de la Garganta

The cave known as Cova de La Garganta is accessed from Senija along the Murtalets path, going towards Les Bassetes, until reaching a peak with an iron cross called Creu Alta. Following the path towards the A-7, the visitor will come across the cave: a shallow rocky cavity, which was the refuge of a bandit named Tona, who stole from the merchants travelling along the road known as Camí Vell de València. This cave has been used since Neanderthal times. As a cavern it is rather shallow, but it is 50 metres wide horizontally, which is why it is classified as a rock shelter. Located in a beautiful spot within the municipality of Senija, the visitor can see a wonder of nature that is rarely witnessed in person: a fossilised tree.
