Xàbia boasts two significant and essential riuraus. El Gran Riurau of the Català d'Arnauda family is one of the few large and well-preserved riuraus that still exist nowadays, originally constructed in the 19th century and recently relocated to Montaner Park. It stands out due to its 14 arches and the rough stone keystones and pillars. The second one is El Riurau de Les Senioles.

Riuraus are constructions that emerged in the Valencian lands during the 18th century and were crucial in the process of raisin production. Their function was to protect the “canyís” (reed matting) where the grapes were spread to dry, preventing rain or dew from wetting and spoiling the fruit.

Generally, these buildings are made of stone, with an interior roof covered with canes exposed to the air, and an exterior roof covered with traditional clay tiles.

The region of La Marina Alta is home to a great number of riuraus of various types and categories. This route allows visitors to explore not only the riuraus themselves but also everything that contextualises them, such as the scalding process along with its accompanying tools, the landscape, the economy, rural architecture, literature, music, history, and ethnography among others.
