A public fountain from the early 19th century located in El Pla de La Font, its source is natural and can be accessed via an underground staircase at the beginning of El Passeig de Cervantes. In his geographical dictionary of 1845, Pascual Madoz mentioned it due to its rich and abundant waters. The surplus water flows into what used to be the llavador, or municipal washing place, located in the street of the same name. The fountain was moved to its current location when it was last remodeled.
The fountain’s body is in the shape of a chess pawn with four faces and four cavities, from each of these protruding a bronze spout, almost at ground level, pouring water into stone basins. The fountain consists of three parts, all made of stone. The first is empty and it is within this part that the spouts are embedded, with their constant flow of water. The second, completely solid, acts as a lid, whilst the third part, in the shape of a spike, adorns the crown on which is inscribed the year 1700.
La Gossa Sorda, a musical group from Pego, made a song in honour of the fountain.
