Teulada Moraira
The territorial area which makes up the valley called La Vall de Les Sorts includes land belonging to the municipality of Teulada, which is in the region of Alicante known as La Marina Alta. The enclave, whose extension covers approximately 100 hectares, is valuable in relation to the ecology, landscape and culture of the area, justifying the declaration of the valley by La Conselleria de Medi Ambient (The Valencian Ministry of the Environment) as a so-called “Paisatge Protegit” (Protected Landscape).
Geologically, La Vall de Les Sorts is located in the domain of the Sistema Prebètic (Prebaetic System) and is included in the area of the Benissa-Teulada syncline, composed of a wealth of marly materials from the Miocene period. This area is currently subject to an important agricultural exploitation thanks to the previous formation of many terraces used to cultivate the land.
The main virtues of this area do not lie so much in its uniqueness and wealth of flora and fauna, but in its great overall scenic value (given the contrast between the flat valley below surrounded by undulating hills) and also its cultural importance.(1)
