La Torre del Rellotge (Clock Tower), a mediaeval military construction renovated in 2010, is the only one standing of the four defensive towers of the castle-palace of Ondara. According to tradition, El Cid Campeador stayed there during the winter of 1090 to 1091.
Inside, it houses the machinery of a late 19th-century tower clock that has recently been mechanised. It has been adapted to serve as a museum and interpretive space for local history.
The temple has the status of Bé de Rellevància Local (Local Relevance Asset) according to the Generalitat’s Fifth Additional Provision of Law 5/2007, of the 9th of February, amending Law 4/1998, of the 11th of June, regarding the Valencian Cultural Heritage (DOCV No. 5,449 / 13.02.2007). Consequently, prior to the start of the works, interventions in the bells must be communicated to the General Directorate of Culture, with the project attached.
