Benissa is situated on a hilltop and is surrounded by the mountain ranges called Oltà, Bèrnia and Mallada Verda. From this position it dominates its four kilometres of quiet coves. The historic centre dating from the mediaeval age, with all its rich heritage, forms a great museum that brings us closer to the history of its ancestors. It is part of the route called La Ruta dels Riuraus, in La Marina Alta.
This is an easy circular route, almost 9 kilometres long, which includes a total altitude difference of 80 metres. The route passes by eight riuraus in the area, the viewpoint called El Mirador de Los Molins and the historical town centre where it is possible to visit the museum known as La Casa Museo Abargues, built in the 16th century and extensively renovated in the 18th century, and now converted into a museum. Also of interest is La Casa Solariega Albargues, a bourgeois manor house which presents a fine example of the Enlightenment architecture of the period and gives a glimpse into the lifestyle of the landowning bourgeoisie.
