Sanet i els Negrals
Sanet i Els Negrals is located at the foot of the mountain range known as Serra de Segària, in the zone called La Rectoria, 10 kilometres away from the Mediterranean Sea.
The so-called Camí de L'Aigua, or Water Trail, is an easy-level route. It goes through 13 locations (all of them signposted and thoroughly explained) that have water as a common denominator.
This route, which runs through the municipality of Sanet i Els Negrals, permits the hiker to visit various important points in the area. It passes by Font de La Roda, a natural spring that comes out from a bank and flows into the irrigation canal known as Séquia de Les Botanes, which collects water from various caves around La Magnòlia and that previously supplied the mills with the water necessary for them to work.
The next point on the route is the old mill of Sanet i Els Negrals.
Continuing along the itinerary, the route reaches Séquia del Ràfol, an irrigation canal that originates within the municipality of Ràfol d'Almúnia and irrigates the municipalities of Benimeli, Sanet, Benidoleig and Pedreguer.
Other interesting points along the route are the mouth of the irrigation canal known as Séquia dels Plans and the small dam called Assut de Les Illetes, which permits the water level to be raised so as to facilitate irrigation. There is also the mouth of the stream known as Riuet de Murla and the “respirador” that served to oxygenate the water and facilitate the task of removing excess sand.
The route then passes by the waterwheel known as Senial del Sella, an ancient mechanism which was used to extract water with the use of animal power. Next up is the so-called motor of Cantó, a mechanical artisanal well related to the water of some underground tanks, and then the motor of Els Plans, which was a waterwheel that extracted water from the irrigation canal of Els Plans and the Ràfol d'Almúnia irrigation canal.
The tenth point to discover along this route is Toll de La Penya, a water spring in the middle of the bed of the River Girona. After that, there is Hort de La Paret, a unique construction that protects an orange grove, leading then to the flow metre and to the area of the washing place of the Ràfol d'Almunia irrigation canal as it passes through La Bolata, which is the end of the itinerary.
