This beautiful and historic route starts at the beach known as Platja del Mascarat, where it is possible to rent a kayak. Skirt around Mascarat Point, leaving on the left the impressive cliff that forms nearly vertical walls with cavities and spectacular arches in the rock, until reaching the first stop: Cala del Racó del Corb.
Cala del Racó del Corb, also known as Cala El Collao, is one of the most beautiful and hidden coves in the Valencian Community, an almost untouched corner of Calp with crystal-clear turquoise waters. This cove is located right on the boundary line between the municipalities of Altea and Calp, in the corner formed by the cliffs of Morro de Toix on the southern slope.
At this point, disembark from the kayak, put on some goggles and the snorkel, and enter the water to enjoy the marvellous seabed. When swimming in Cala del Racó del Corb, it is important to remember that these waters are protected by law, as they are part of the natural park of Serra Gelada.
During the journey, several ancient fishing structures can be seen on the cliff walls. These constructions served as platforms and towers and were used by fishermen to climb up the cliffs, waiting until they had collected a good amount of fish. This was a good way to avoid going back to the coast and returning the next day to fish some more, thus saving time and energy. From the sea, one can spot elements such as ropes and ladders and even some of the shelters. In fact, it is possible to find these fishing structures in several points along the coast of La Marina Alta.
Additionally, during the journey, one comes across several caves.
