Life forms: Macrophanerophyte (Macrofaneròfit). Habitats: Holm oak, holm and cork oak woods. Garden plants. Heaths, siliceous shoots. Pine and chaparral woods with rosemary and thyme. Features: The Arbocera is a shrub that can grow into a tree, recognisable by its reddish bark and serrated leaves. Also very characteristic are its spherical fruits, red when ripe and edible; the fruits take a year to ripen and coexist with the flowers of the following year. It flowers and bears fruit in autumn. Notes: The name unedo comes from the Latin verb edo: to eat, and the numeral unus: only one; it means "to eat only one", because of the fruit's reputation for making you drunk.
